WVU’s Wetherholt Honored Again

MORGANTOWN, WV—West Virginia Sophomore second baseman JJ Wetherholt has collected his third All-America First team honors Thursday by Perfect Game. This actually is a well deserved honor for Wetherholt especially coming from a WVU baseball team that he helped win a share of the Big 12 title this year.

When you think of it, Mountaineer fans should be thankful that Coach Randy Mazey was the only head coach to win a title (between baseball, football and basketball) in the Big 12. Basketball and football has never achieved this since WVU joined the Conference in 2012.

Many West Virginia fans were hoping this was the year that the baseball team would participate in the College World Series. However, the future looks very bright for the WVU baseball team. It was  reported that Wetherholt will be back in a Mountaineer uniform next season. Looking back on the 2023 season it was successful in many ways.

“I think these guys (WVU team) will realize, and a lot of people will realize, that this was one of the best seasons any (WVU baseball) team has ever put together…we were ranked in the top ten, we won the Big 12, we won 40 games, and brought a community together. That’s what happened this year,” said Coach Mazey as  he summed up 2023.

WVU fans would be elated if the football or basketball team accomplished the same. Congratulations Coach Mazey and WVU Baseball. We look forward to next season and packing out home games once again!
