WVU found it’s new Athletic Director

MORGANTOWN,WV—It appears that a new WVU Athletic Director has apparently been hired to take over for the fired Shane Lyons. Lyons, who was let go a little over two weeks ago. Lyons has been replaced by North Texas AD, Wren Baker.

Baker took over the North Texas position in 2016 leading the Mean Green to 17 conference or division championships across seven programs during his leadership. He is also noted for his ability to raise funding which is important in the NIL and transfer portal. He secured 12 of the 20 largest gifts in the school’s history according to their website.

Before Baker’s time at at North Texas, he worked as deputy athletic director at Memphis and Missouri.     It also appears that with Baker as the new AD, head football coach Neal Brown may be off of the chopping block. It’s expected that Brown will be back for 2023.

It’s a good thing that Brown will be back because of possibly losing a very good class of recruits and losing more current players to the transfer portal.

From all indications it looks like the Baker hiring would be a move forward in the athletic program at WVU especially with the winning records and growth at North Texas.
