WVU football great back with the team!

MORGANTOWN, WV—-With Mountaineer Football Spring practice in full swing it’s no secret that Head Coach Neal Brown plans on using two quarterbacks. Garrett Greene and Nicco Marchiol will no doubt share playing time this fall. Marchiol is a better passer while Greene is still learning the quarterback position. Greene has more playing time than Marchiol when he started the last two games of the season in place of JT Daniels. It will be interesting to see if Greene has developed into a better passer and if he can win the starting job. Greene is fantastic at scrambling while Marchiol on the other hand was groomed to be a passing quarterback.

It appears that WVU’s offense will resemble the Rich Rodriguez and Don Nehlen run heavy teams of the past. With the new zone/read offense, the Mountaineers are poised to attack the edge a lot with running backs or with their two quarterbacks keeping the ball. WVU’s history is having run-heavy teams. Remember the days of Steve Slaton and Pat White and their success at running?

In other news, former Beaver Falls all conference football player Tyler Cain will be added to the 2023 college football roster. Cain previously committed to the Naval Academy following a great career at Beaver Falls. He wanted to transfer closer to home at WVU. He will be a linebacker. He will have four full seasons of eligibility left at WVU.

Neal Brown announced that former Mountaineer quarterback Rasheed Marshall will be added to his staff as Director of Player Relations. Marshall was a great player at WVU making the Big East player of the year and was a fifth round draft pick. The Pittsburgh native loves West Virginia and is passionate about developing young people. WVU fans will be excited by his return.

WVU recently hosted several recruits and a transfer option. Cornerback Marquis Wilson, formerly of Penn State, appeared in 28 games and recorded 55 tackles, four pass breakups, three tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and two interceptions. Wilson also has receiver experience.
