Our favorite WVU Mountaineer, JJ Weatherholt, was picked as preseason Big 12 player of the year. JJ Wetherholt earned every vote from the Big 12 head coaches. Pretty impressive!

From WVU Sports: The junior is the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year after leading the country with a .449 batting average in 2023 while also tallying 16 home runs, 24 doubles, 67 runs, 60 RBI and 36 stolen bases. He earned unanimous First Team All-America status after the season while also being named a First-Team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators.

Entering the 2024 season, Wetherholt is projected as one of the top selections in the upcoming MLB Draft including being listed as the top prospect by MLB.com, Baseball America and Perfect Game.

WVU 2024 Baseball Schedule:

The season kicks off on February 16 against Stetson. The first home game will be on February 28 against Canisius. WVU will also take on in state rival, Marshall in Charleston on March 12 followed by a home series against Ohio State on March 15-17! Ranked Kansas State comes to Morgantown in May. The Big 12 Tournament will start on May 21 in Arlington, Texas.

I don’t know about you, but I’m excited for another season of Mountaineer baseball. Wishing Coach Mazey and the players another fantastic season.
