WVU baseball gets its first win of the season

STATESBORO, GA—The West Virginia Mountaineer baseball team (1-2) got its first win of the 2023 season Sunday afternoon knocking off Georgia Southern, 13-4.

The Mountaineers were powered by three home runs. Landon Wallace and C. McNeely cracked home runs in the second and third innings to stake the Mountaineers to a 4-2 lead. The Eagles scored another run in the bottom of the third to trail 4-3 but never got any closer.

WVU went ahead 8-3 in the fifth inning and tacked on runs in the seventh and ninth innings. B. Barry homered in the fifth inning with two runners on base.

Grant Siegel (1-0) with a strong start was the winning pitcher. Siegel is a transfer from Tulane.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to face Maryland in College Park at 4 p.m.
