Women Get Critical Win Against Kansas

MORGANTOWN, WV—-The West Virginia Mountaineer Women’s basketball team (16-8) hung on to win a nail biter Wednesday night 62-60 over the Kansas Jayhawks. The win snapped a three game losing streak to Kansas (16-8). Madisen Smith led the way with 17 points. Also scoring in double digits were Kyah Watson with 14 and Isis Beh at 13. Sarah Bates chipped in 9 while JJ Quinerly had 6. Beh had a team high seven rebounds.

WVU shot 44 percent from three point range (11-25). The Jayhawks were only 5 of 16 from 3 point range 31 percent..The Mountaineer bench outscored Kansas 22-0. Kansas opened the game on a 7-0 run but WVU outscored the opposition 11-2 finishing the first quarter with a 17-14 lead.

Smith recorded her 500th assist and also broke the 400 field goals made. She has 300 career rebounds to boot.

WVU is sitting on the bubble as the first four out according to ESPN bracketology along with Nebraska, Syracuse and St. Johns.
