Will WVU make the College World Series?

MORGANTOWN, WV—-The West Virginia baseball team looks like the Cincinnati Reds professional team of the 1970’s nicknamed “The Big Red Machine.” WVU (39-13, 15-6) took care of business this past weekend winning 2 out of 3 games to win the series from a very tough Texas Tech (35-18, 10-11).

The “Big Mountaineer Machine” just continues to dominate as they recently beat Pitt again taking all the games in the “Backyard Brawl.” West Virginia is only one win away from claiming its first Big 12 Conference title. To do that the Mountaineers head to Austin, Texas for a three game series at Texas.

“There’s nothing they (WVU baseball team) haven’t done yet,” said WVU head coach Randy Mazey. “It’s so impressive the way they bounce back from stuff and the way we pitch, the way we hit, the way we run the bases, play defense, we’re checking just about every box to be a great team right now.”

J.J. Wetherholt continues to stay hot. He is currently the Big 12 Conference Baseball Player of the year frontrunner. The whole WVU team is playing well together right now. Even the bullpen held off one of the best offenses in the country when the Red Raiders jumped to a quick 2-0 in Sunday’s game 3. WVU eventually took the game  5-3.

The Texas-WVU game will start at 7:30 EST Thursday and be broadcast on the Longhorn Network.

If WVU continues to play solid baseball it’s quite possible we will watch them in the College World Series!
