West Virginia Opens As Slight Favorites Over Texas, Geno Smith horns down

The line has been set. According to VegasInsider.com West Virginia opens as 3.5 point favorites when the Texas Longhorns come to town.

Since opening there has been some action on Texas and the line has dropped to WVU -3.

WVU is coming off of a 28-23 win. A Hail Mary just before halftime sealed the win for the Mountaineers when Will Grier rolled to his left and ran the clock out before hurling a touchdown pass to Ka’Raun White. It created a funny exchange between Grier and Holgorsen.

Check out some of the highlights called by Tony Caridi.

The Longhorns have the defensive secondary to give the vaunted Mountaineer passing attack problems. Star cornerback Holton Hill will be out as he has been suspended for the rest of the season. Even without Hill the Longhorns are loaded with talent on the defensive side of the ball. The offensive side of the ball has been not nearly as kind to the Horns. With freshman Sam Ehlinger out it has been even more of a struggle.

It could be difficult for the Mountaineers to put up points against the Longhorns. On the flip side it shouldn’t be too difficult to shut down the Longhorns offense. If WVU can build a lead early Texas would have a very difficult time coming back. Will Grier needs to be careful with the ball against this tough Texas secondary as interceptions could pile up if he is careless.

The game is set for a noon kickoff in Morgantown. If West Virginia wants to keep any hope alive for the Big 12 title game then this is an absolute must win. If you need a refresher, here is the path to the Big 12 title game.
