On Saturday the basketball version of the Backyard Brawl will be renewed at noon at the WVU Coliseum. Last season the Mountaineers defeated the Pitt Panthers in Pittsburgh by a final score of 69-60.

That West Virginia team was very different from the current team. They were ranked 18th in the country and coming off of a win against No. 15 Virginia. West Virginia coach Bob Huggins knows this and is asking for Mountaineer fans to rally around his team.

It was also a very different Pitt team. Last year’s Pitt team went winless in ACC play. This year Pitt has a new coach in Jeff Capel. Sanctions have followed Capel wherever he has went, but you can’t argue with his team’s success on the court. Capel took Virginia Commonwealth to the NCAA Tournament and took a Blake Griffin-led Oklahoma team to the Elite 8.

After his Oklahoma team went south, Capel wen onto join Mike Kryzewski’s staff as an assistant at Duke, his alma mater. In March, Capel agreed to become the head coach of Pitt and replace the massive failure that was Kevin Stallings.

This season Pitt is 7-2 so far. In their most recent game they suffered a home loss to Niagara.

A blowout of Pitt would be a great first step for Bob Huggin’s team getting back on track. The Coliseum is sold out and the place will be rocking at high noon on Saturday.

Listen to Bob Huggins and get behind them!

Oh yeah and one more thing.

Eat sh*t Pitt.
