To Mountaineer Nation, With Love
To begin, although I travel throughout the world, West Virginia will always be my home. Always. During my extensive travels, I have never found a place with the combination of natural beauty and genuineness of its people like West Virginia. As we all know, there’s no place in the world like it and that’s why we love it like we do.
My goal as a writer for Mountaineer Sports is to uplift and celebrate not just West Virginia University but the entire state as well. With that said, you can imagine my horror when a recent article of mine was deemed “inappropriate” and a stain on the place that I love so dearly.
What I’ve learned is that we can agree to disagree, but ultimately what’s most important is that we remember that Mountaineer Nation should always remain together. There is enough negativity outside of our great state that any fighting within our population simply doesn’t make sense. In addition, the people of West Virginia continue to teach me every day that nothing matters more than family…and we’re all a family.
Occasionally family members make mistakes, sometimes they do things that you don’t agree with, but ultimately family sticks together. We all share the same passion and love for the Mountaineers, we all bleed gold and blue and we should all, myself included, remember to always support the university and our state.
The passion of West Virginians is inspiring and it’s my job, our duty to continue to uplift the state and its people. Like my new friend Angelia Barnett said, “It’s us against the world. Not us against us.”
West Virginia United. Mountaineer United. Let’s Go Mountaineers!
