The “Backyard Brawl” Is Here!

MORGANTOWN, WV—-Bring On Pitt!

However, some things have to be fixed first! The Mountaineers still have some coverage problems in their secondary to figure out and they need to do better on third down conversions. WVU went 6 for 13.

On a bright note, redshirt freshman Hudson Clement caught three of Garrett Greene’s four passes in his first collegiate appearance as WVU whipped Duquesne 56-17 Saturday night. Clement got the start in place of Devin Carter just prior to the game. Head coach Neal Brown didn’t like how Carter looked in pregame warmups due to a practice injury. Clement was credited with 177 yards.

Greene, in his 4th career start, went 10 of 18 for a career best 240 yards. Backup QB, Nicco Marchiol took over in the second half. WVU finished with  619 total yards including 304 on the ground. The Mountaineer defense held the Dukes to only 3 yards on the ground.

The Pitt Panthers will be hungry to defeat the Mountaineers after they fell 27-21 at home versus the Cincinnati Bearcats Saturday. Pitt quarterback, P. Jurkovec, was 10-32 for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns. Cincinnati held Pitt to 83 yards on the ground.

The Mountaineer secondary cannot make any mistakes in order to win the latest edition of the backyard brawl.

Sadly, College Gameday is not coming to Morgantown but instead going to Boulder. Game time is set at 7:30 pm Saturday night on ABC.
