Should Coach Josh Eilert Be Given A 2nd Chance Next Season?

MORGANTOWN, WV—-Let’s face it, when Men’s Assistant Coach Josh Eilert was promoted to interim head coach, the program was in disarray after former coach Bob Huggins left. The team lost Tre Mitchell, Joe Toussaint, Mohamed Wague,  and James Okonkwo to the transfer portal.

To begin the current season, Eilert was without some other key players because of the NCAA and injuries. RaeQuan Battle was out because of the NCAA and Kerr Kriisa was serving a nine game suspension. Jesse Edwards was soon taken out of the lineup after an injury just when RaeQuan Battle was cleared to start playing. Eilert was basically trying to fill the void which has currently led the team to a subpar 5-9 record and 0-1 in the tough, Big 12 Conference. Some fans are getting anxious and are clamoring for Bob Huggins to return.

Eilert needs to have his entire team back intact and given a fair chance for the remainder of the 2023-24 season before any changes are made. Can he turn this season around or is it too late?

The Mountaineers are set to take on the visiting Kansas State Wildcats, Tuesday night at the Coliseum at 7 p.m.
