Though our Mountaineers didn’t look great tonight, things could always be worse. This is evident after fans checked the score of their bitter rival’s game this evening.
In truly embarrassing fashion, the Pitt Panthers dropped their season opener to The Citadel, 78-63. Yes, you read that correctly…Pittsburgh didn’t only lose to The Citadel, they lost by double digits, and at home.
The Panthers’ biggest struggle of the afternoon was on the offensive side of the ball. Not only did they connect on under 40% of their shots, they only made two three-pointers. Their total for the night behind the arc finished at just 2 for 17. That totals out to only 11.8%.
They were not on their game defensively, either. The Panthers allowed The Citadel to connect on 46% of their shots, including 36% behind the line. Though things did not go their way, Pitt was able to barely nudge the Bulldogs on the board, finishing with a 43 to 39 rebounding advantage.
The Panthers (0-1) travel to Morgantown to take on the Mountaineers on Friday night. The game will tip-off at 8:30 p.m., and will be televised on ESPNU.
