Penn State defeats WVU

STATE COLLEGE, PA—- The Lady Cats of Penn State knocked off the Mountaineers 69-57 Sunday night. It was only the second loss of the season for West Virginia (7-2). WVU led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was the downfall of the Mountaineers when PSU outscored the visitors 26-17 for a 39-31 halftime lead. West Virginia won the turnover battle 15-14, but lost rebounding 35-30.Â
J.J. Quinerly led the Mountaineers with 16 points while Leilani Kapinus led PSU with 15. WVU was only 35.8 from the field compared to 49 percent for Penn State. From three point range Penn State led 41.2 to 30.4.
Only 2,218 attended the game. Penn State’s record is now 8-3. Next up for West Virginia is Georgia at home in Morgantown Tuesday December 20 at 2:30 p.m.
