Many Mountaineer fans are looking forward to the college basketball season. Don’t get me wrong, WVU football still reigns supreme in Morgantown, but we love our Mountaineer basketball as well. Today the NCAA announced the start date for men’s and women’s college basketball. No exhibition games or scrimmages can be held before this date.

The 2020-21 men’s and women’s college basketball seasons can start Nov. 25, the NCAA Division I Council said Wednesday, per ESPN. November 25 is Thanksgiving, so no games, exhibition games or scrimmages can be held before Thanksgiving.

“The new season start date near the Thanksgiving holiday provides the optimal opportunity to successfully launch the basketball season,” NCAA senior vice president of basketball Dan Gavitt said. “It is a grand compromise of sorts and a unified approach that focuses on the health and safety of student-athletes competing towards the 2021 Division I basketball championships.”

WVU has a schedule a trip to the Bahamas scheduled for November 25th November 27th for the Battle 4 Atlantis. This trip should be safe. However, the games scheduled before this trip are in jeopardy. Check out the men’s basketball schedule here.
