Mountaineers Lose Starting Safety For Texas Game…and Perhaps the Remainder of the Season

The West Virginia Mountaineers have lost starting Safety JoVanni Stewart for the game against Texas and it’s possible that he will sit out the remainder of the season.

According to 247 Sports’ “Little” Mikey Cassaza, Stewart will sit out “due to personal reasons, and individuals familiar with the decision say Stewart is leaning toward using his redshirt this season and moving on as a postgraduate transfer afterward.

Stewart, a 5’8 196 pound Senior from Katy, Texas, started 11 games in 2018 and has started every game this season.  He was second on the team in tackles for loss and sacks for the Mountaineers in 2018.

This, of course, is a massive loss for WVU and couldn’t come at a worse time as they prepare for the showdown against Texas this Saturday.
