Mountaineers Down 10-2 After 6 Innings

Top of 4th.  A strikeout followed by a pop to center led to 2 easy outs.  Our next batter walked on a 3-2 count.  Burns then hit a 2-run homer to right-center that cut the Cowboy lead to 8-2.  That is how the inning ended.

Bottom of 4th.  WVU starts the inning with a new pitcher and catcher.  The first hitter hit a high fly to center for out 1.  The next batter struck out looking.  A line drive then went off the landing foot of the pitcher allowing the hitter to safely reach first.  The next hitter bounced a ball over the leaping pitcher for another hit.  None of which made it out of the infield.  The final batter struck out swinging leaving the score 8-2.

Top of 5th.  The leadoff hitter struck out.  The next batter walked then stole 2nd.  A walk put men on 1st and 2nd with 1 out.  The following batter struck out swinging.  Another strikeout swinging ended the inning with the Mountaineers failing to score.

Bottom of 5th.  The leadoff hitter struck out looking.  The following hitter lined a single to right.  A pop to right counted for out number 2.  A hit down the right-field line that was misplayed in right led to another run and a batter standing on 3rd base.  A hotshot down the first baseline was scored a hit and added another run to the Cowboy’s total.  A short fly to center ended the inning with the Oklahoma State leading 10-2.

Top of 6th.  Our leadoff hitter struck out swinging.  Scott walked on 4 straight pitches to reach 1st with 1 out.  Scott then stole 2nd base without a throw.  A great diving catch on the warning track by the centerfielder was the 2nd out, but Scott was able to make it to 3rd base with 2 outs.  A walk put men at the corners.  The runner on 1st stole 2nd on a ball in the dirt that was blocked by the catcher.  A swinging strike ended the inning for WVU.

Bottom of 6th.  The first batter popped out to center.  Followed by a strike-out swinging for 2 quick outs.  The 3rd batter struck out looking with OSU leading after 6 innings, 10-2.
