Mountaineers Continue To Rise In Rankings

After a loss in their opener, the West Virginia Mountaineers have reeled off 11 straight wins. The Mountaineers continue to rise in the rankings and are now No. 7 in the AP Top 25. Losses by North Carolina, Miami and Kentucky helped WVU move up the rankings a few spots.

The last few games the Mountaineers have faced some very lax competition, which resulted in some uninspired efforts. It’s time for the Mountaineers to ramp up their efforts, with Big 12 competition looming. Bob Huggins hoped to give more time to reserves in these contests, but he was forced to use senior guards Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles Jr. more than he would have liked to.

There are six Big 12 teams in the AP Top 25. Of all those teams, West Virginia is the highest ranked team. The senior guard duo of Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles Jr. lead WVU into their Big 12 opener Friday night on the road against Oklahoma State.

Here is the AP Top Ten:

  1. Villanova
  2. Michigan State
  3. Arizona State
  4. Duke
  5. Texas A&M
  6. Xavier
  7. West Virginia
  8. Wichita State
  9. Virginia
  10. TCU
