Mountaineer Women Win Again 94-40

MORGANTOWN,WV—The West Virginia Mountaineer Women’s basketball team(3-0) crushed Youngstown State (2-2) Sunday 94-40 for its third straight victory of the young season. WVU started very strong in the first three quarters at the WVU coliseum.

The Mountaineers had four players reach double figures, led by Jordan Harrison’s 16 points. Harrison made 5 for 5 from the field all three pointers and made all three free throw attempts. WVU opened the game on a 9-0 run and ended the first quarter on a 10-0 roll. JJ Quinerly, Tirzah Moore and Lauren Fields all scored 10 points or more in the contest. Moore made her season debut for WVU . She played 15 minutes, adding ten points and four rebounds. Moore, a transfer from Oral Roberts, was sidelined with a foot injury for the Mountaineer’s first two games.

WVU shot 77 percent from the field in the first quarter and stayed in full control . The early momentum kept the Mountaineers in charge. Defensively the Mountaineers forced 21 turnovers that led to 28 points. Eight of those turnovers came from WVU steals.

The 94 points were the most scored in WVU’s three games. The first two games were both in the 70’s.

WVU will play George Washington in the first of three games in the San Juan Shootout weekend starting on Thursday. The game will start at 2:30 p.m.
