Mountaineer Women Remain Perfect

MORGANTOWN, WV—-The West Virginia Women’s Basketball team (9-0) broke the century mark with a crushing win over Delaware State Sunday 107-43 at the WVU Coliseum. The attack was led by junior guard JJ Quinerly with a season high 25 points. Quinerly recorded her second career double double, with another career high of 12 assists. She also added eight rebounds and seven steals. Her steals mark another career high as she led WVU with points assists, rebounds and steals in the game.

Five other Mountaineers joined Quinerly in double figures. Senior forward Kylee Blacksten produced a season high 16 points and sophomore guard Jordan Harrison added 13. Blacksten added five rebounds as Harrison recorded six assists.

Seniors Jayla Hemingway and Tavy Diggs and guard Tirzah Moore each scored ten points. Senior Lauren Fields tacked on five steals. WVU had 17 steals in the game. offensively WVU shot 41 of 68 (60 percent) from the floor. The Mountaineers outscored Delaware State by 50 points in the paint.

Defensively WVU forced 25 turnovers and held the Hornets to 16 of 53 (30 percent) from the field. It marks the 8th time this season WVU has forced an opponent into 21 turnovers in a game. 

WVU scored 37 points in the opening quarter to tie the program record for points in the quarter. 

West Virginia will play host to Wright State on Monday December 18, inside the WVU Coliseum. The contest against the Raiders is set for 10 a.m. ET and will be broadcast on Big 12 Now. The game will also be on the Mountaineer Sports Network.
