Mountaineer Women Keep Winning Streak Alive

MORGANTOWN, WV—Junior guard JJ Quinerly led the way to West Virginia’s 7th victory in a row to  open the season knocking off St. Bonaventure 90-50 at the WVU Coliseum Saturday afternoon. The 7-0 start is the best to begin a coaching tenure in program history. The season opening win streak also marks the 6th time in program history that the Mountaineers have won its first seven games to begin a season.

Quinerly led with 21 points. Four Mountaineers finished the afternoon in double figures. It marked the second time this season the four have finished with 10 plus points in a contest. It’s the third time this season and the tenth time that Quinerly has scored over 20 points.

Sophomore guard, Jordan Harrison, scored 14 points and a team leading 8 assists, four rebounds and four steals. Fifth year senior, Jayla Hemingway, and junior guard, Tirzah Moore, both produced season highs with 16 and 13 points. Hemingway also added four rebounds. Junior guard Kyah Watson chipped in with nine points and a season high four steals.

The Mountaineers shot 55 percent from the free throw line and it’s the second time this season WVU shot 50 percent from the floor. WVU’s defense was outstanding forcing 31 St. Bonaventure turnovers that resulted in 38 points.

West Virginia will go after its 8th victory in a row Monday, December 4 when they host Penn State. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. ET from the WVU Coliseum. The first 200 students will  receive a free $15 concession voucher courtesy of Coach Kellogg.
