Mountaineer Football Still Has Shot at Big 12 Title Game

MORGANTOWN, WV—The West Virginia Mountaineer football team has a chance to make history in Ripley’s “Believe It Or Not”! If WVU goes to Lubbock Texas this weekend and knocks off Texas Tech there is a possibility the Mountaineers would still be in the running for a title. There are a lot of scenarios that have to take place first.
The Big 12 says there are 256 different scenarios in play to decide who plays in the title game. If all four of the top teams (Arizona State, BYU, Colorado, Iowa State) lose and Kansas State, TCU and Baylor win to all finish 6-3, there will be an eight team tie for first place. The winner of Texas Tech-West Virginia would also finish 6-3. There are nine teams alive for the eight-way tie, as Texas Tech vs. West Virginia will cancel one of each other out.Â
The way things have been going in the Big 12 of late with upsets, it wouldn’t be surprising to see chaos ensue on the last weekend of games.Â

Even if the Mountaineers don’t make the title game but manage to beat Texas Tech, a 6-3 record is not bad for playing in the Big 12 this season. That means WVU will enter its bowl game with a 7-5 record and a chance to finish a respectable 8-5. Let’s not rule out a crazy finish in the Big 12 this Saturday!
