Make Or Break Game for WVU Saturday- University of Albany Preview

MORGANTOWN, WV—-Can the West Virginia Mountaineer football team shake off the terrible showing in the opener against Penn State and whip the Albany Great Danes this Saturday? The Mountaineer fans desperately want to get the sour taste out of their mouths and the only way to do that is watching WVU score 55 plus points. The offense and defense must show itself worthy and get off to a fast start.

Last week’s loss to Penn State was a “bad day at the office!”  So bad, Neal Brown shaved the goatee. WVU cannot afford to play again this week like they did last week on offense and defense. The coaches must get Garrett Greene and the running game going. If they don’t correct it against Albany then the Backyard Brawl will be a disaster. Anything goes when we play Pitt. Who can forget the time we played a 4-7 unranked Pitt, a 28 1/2 point underdog, and lost 13-9 missing out on a National Championship appearance in 2007.

Last year Albany won their FCS semi-final game. The Great Danes are ready to play spoiler to a WVU team that better shake off that awful first game loss. Albany beat Virginia Tech a few years ago so the team better have their guard up. Last week, The No. 16 University at Albany football team was able to hold off the visiting LIU Sharks on Saturday night to collect the first win of the 2024 season, 27-21.

The Mountaineers need to have near perfect efficiency on offense and start fast. WVU needs to score 28 points by the end of the first half and then be able to play Nicco Marchiol at quarterback in the second half to prepare him in case Greene goes down with an injury like last season. The Mountaineers must also show that they can run the football in big chunk plays with CJ Donaldson and Jaheim White. If the Mountaineers go 3 and out then it will be a disaster and a bad sign for the offense. Hopefully there will be a 180 degree turn around this Saturday with the offense and defense.

My prediction, WVU 55- Albany 20.
