Could Bill Belichick be WVU’s next head coach? Crazier things have happened.
MORGANTOWN, WV—Could former NFL New England Patriot head coach Bill Belichick be the next West Virginia University football coach? The rumor has been circulating around the Mountain State recently.Â
Belichick has also been in discussions with North Carolina about the job at Chapel Hill. Belichick was let go after the 2023 season at New England but he has shown interest in taking a head coaching job at a university or back in the NFL.Â
After his meetings with UNC, Belichick had this to say on the Pat McAfee Show. “Let me put this in capital letters: IF I was in a college program, the college program would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL,” Belichick explained. “It would be a professional program. Training, nutrition, scheme, coaching, techniques that would transfer to the NFL. It would be an NFL program at a college level and an education that would get the players ready for their career after football.”
UNC parted ways with legendary coach Mac Brown on November 26 for a 6-6 record exactly like Neal Brown’s 6-6 finish and firing. Mac Brown was with UNC for six years finishing with a 44-33 mark.
The big rumor in West Virginia centers around Belichick possibly buying land around the Cheat Lake area outside of Morgantown. Has WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker been trying to work out a deal with the former successful NFL coach?
It shouldn’t be completely ruled out since Belichick is serious about coaching again somewhere.
