Buffalo down

MORGANTOWN, WV—-West Virginia celebrated Bob Huggins Hall of Fame Day with a 96-78 win over Buffalo Sunday night. Erik Stevenson had a season high 22 points and Jimmy Bell had a double double to raise the West Virginia record to 9-2 before getting into  the Big 12 schedule.     

Huggins now has an amazing 925 wins and is third all time in Division I behind Mike Krzyzewski and Jim Boeheim. Huggins, who was enshrined into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in September, has spent 41 years coaching. He is the 17th Division I coach to do so.     

Buffalo was down by double digits early in the second half but hit three 3-pointers in four minutes and got within 61-60 with 11:40 remaining. West Virginia got rolling though when Buffalo’s Jonnivius Smith was called for a foul and also picked up a technical with 11:18 to go.      Attendance was 10,689
