Big 12 Home Opener Against Oklahoma Sold Out

Mountaineer fans are ready for Big 12 play. There is a big-time Big 12 home opener slated at the Coliseum when No. 12 Oklahoma comes to town.

On Wednesday the university announced that the January 6 home opener against Oklahoma is sold out. This is pending the completion of the student ticketing process. While the Mountaineers are ranked No. 7 and Oklahoma No. 12 in the AP Top 25, they could go even higher with a successful week leading up to the showdown.

It will be a big showdown between two of the best guards in the country. Mountaineer senior guard Jevon Carter is averaging 18.2 points, 6.3 assists and 5.5 rebounds. Also he is one of the top defenders in the country while averaging 3.7 steals per game.

Oklahoma freshman Trae Young has taken college basketball by storm. He leads the country in both points per game and assists per game. Young is currently averaging 28.7 points per game and 10.4 assists per game.

Russell Westbrook is taking notice of the freshman star at Oklahoma.

As if that’s not enough, Young also received a tip of the cap from none other than LeBron James on Instagram.

Before these two teams square off both have work to do. The Mountaineers go on the road to take on Oklahoma State and Kansas State. Oklahoma has a road contest with TCU and also takes on the Cowboys, but at home. If both teams are able to get through the first two conference games unscathed, you will certainly be looking at a battle of top 10 teams.
