Earlier today, WVU punter Evan Matthes took to social media to announce his intentions of entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Matthes, who never recorded a punt while in Morgantown, thanked both Coach Dana Holgorsen and Neal Brown in his announcement. Holgorsen, who has since left for Houston, took part in bringing Matthes to WVU.

“I would also like to thank Coach Holgorsen and his staff for bringing me on to the program…”

As for Brown and his staff, Matthes tipped his hat to them for his development during his collegiate career.

“…and Coach Brown and his staff for helping me further develop as a player.”

Matthes came to WVU from South Lakes High School in Virginia. Being part of a crowded special teams room, he just couldn’t quite seem to gain ground and climb the depth chart into playing time.

After completing his redshirt junior season in 2021, Matthes will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
