2024 WVU Football Predictions

Penn State at WVU

August 31, 2024: WVU has only 9 wins against Penn State since 1904. 49 losses and 2 ties. West Virginia will get help from a sold out and very loud crowd, but loses by 3 to our second Pennsylvania nemesis, Penn State.

Penn State 38 – WVU 35

Albany at WVU

September 7, 2024: Albany finished the 2023 season at 11-4 and first place in the CAA standings. Their losses came against South Dakota State, Marshall, Hawaii and New Hampshire. WVU gets a nice little tune up before Pittsburgh and wins this one convincingly.

WVU 56 – Albany 10

WVU at Pitt

September 14, 2024: Last time we played Pitt at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, over 70,000 fans showed up making it clear to the NCAA that rivalry games matter. This is one of dozens of problems that the NCAA and conferences need to fix. Rivalries matter! Last time in Pittsburgh, WVU lost 31-38 to a number 22 ranked Pitt team. The Panthers were absolutely abysmal in 2023. I expect WVU to run all over Pitt in this 106th edition of the Backyard Brawl.

WVU 42 – Pitt 28

WVU at Arizona

This is likely going to be one of the toughest games on WVU’s schedule next year. Arizona beat Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl by two touchdowns. Yes Oklahoma was without their starting QB and offensive line, but this is a team that looks to be tough in the revamped Big 12. WVU wins a tight battle 2,000 miles from home.

WVU 35 – Arizona 31

WVU at Cincinnati

Whether at home or on the road, WVU owns Cincinnati. Since 1921, WVU has a 17-3-1 record against the Bearcats. Coach Satterfield is going to need a much improved team to compete in the Big 12, but next year is not his year. WVU cruises to an easy win.

WVU 38 – Cincinnati 21

WVU at Oklahoma State

Let’s get real. WVU has been awful against any team from the state of Oklahoma. WVU is 3-9 against Oklahoma State since joining the Big 12 and only 5-10 all time. WVU comes up short again against Mike Gundy and his Cowboys.

Oklahoma State 29 – WVU 14

WVU at Texas Tech

WVU is 7-6 vs Texas Tech. We lost four straight before winning this season. Texas Tech is recruiting well with their NIL trust, the Matador Club. As always it will be a fight to the end, but WVU prevails.

WVU 38 – Texas Tech 31

Baylor at WVU

Will Dave Aranda get fired in 2024? Like Neal Brown in 2023, Dave Aranda is on the hot seat going into the 2024 season. Will he get his Bears back on track or will we see another down year for Baylor? Bad news Dave; you’re coming to Morgantown and that doesn’t bode well for you. WVU steamrolls Baylor in this classic showdown.

WVU 48 – Baylor 24

Kansas at WVU

Kansas is rolling! Lance Leipold has pulled the Jayhawks from being a perennial loser in the Big 12 to a competitive program with a $300 million stadium overhaul coming in 2024. Kansas went 9-4 in 2023 and won the Guaranteed Rate Bowl against UNLV for one of their best seasons in a decade. Last time they had a winning record was 2008. Kansas is doing great things in Lawrence, but not in Morgantown baby! WVU keeps rolling.

WVU 55 – Kansas 38

Kansas State at WVU

Kansas State is one of the toughest and most consistently good teams in the Big 12. They rarely play on the national stage, but having a winning record almost every year and only two losing seasons since 2009. However, WVU has played well against Kansas State in the Big 12. 6 wins, 7 losses. That gives us decent odds for a win. This is a toss up for me, but since we are playing them at home, I’m giving WVU the win.

WVU 28 – Kansas State 21

Iowa State at WVU

Sorry folks, but we just aren’t good against Iowa State. I don’t understand it. There is no reason on paper why we can’t beat this team but suffice it to say, they have our number. We have lost the last four out of five with the lone win in 2022 in Morgantown. Matt Campbell just finds a way to beat our squad. Based on the statistics alone, I’m going Iowa State for the win.

Iowa State 24 – WVU 21

UCF at WVU

Gus Malzahn needs to turn this team around in 2024 or this could also be his last year coaching the Knights. UCF had one of the top recruiting classes in the Big 12 so expect a tough squad to come to Morgantown. WVU, on the other hand, played one of its best games in 2023 on the road in Orlando and won convincingly. This year we have the home field advantage. WVU pulls away late to seal the game.

WVU 28- UCF 24

WVU goes 9-3 on the season surpassing Coach Brown’s 2023 regular season record. I’ll gladly take it. What do you all think?
